Entries Open For MachakosFest: A Short Film Festival 2015

From the organizers of the MachakosFest, Machowood.

The Machakos Entertainment Centre for Film, Media, Music and the Arts (MACHAWOOD) has launched a short film festival competition dubbed MachakosFest. Ten pieces will be shortlisted for screening at the Machakos People’s Park amphitheatre, before the best four are selected. MachakosFest will feature short films based on any key idea or phrase, which will be submitted for grading before the best pieces are awarded. For example, if the key word is ‘matatu’, the storyline could be about a matatu, filmed in a matatu, feature a song about a matatu or have an image of a matatu. Participants are encouraged to be as creative, innovative and original as possible, bearing in mind that plagiarism will lead to automatic disqualification. The MachakosFest is premised on the successful Australian Tropfest festival, which has become a global phenomenon.

All entries must be in by November 15, 2015, when the submission period will close. The pieces will then be judged and shortlisted by November 30, 2015 before the final winner is announced at a film gala on December 4, 2015. All the pieces, which must be 7 minutes long, will be graded by a panel of five judges, who are well known individuals in the film industry. Up for grabs will be a Ksh1,000,000 cash prize, which will go to the best piece. This individual will also enjoy free training on film making. The second best piece will get Ksh500,000 while third and fourth will get Ksh250,000 and Ksh100,000 respectively. The winners will be crowned during a Film gala on August 14, 2015. Interested participants can only submit a maximum of two pieces and will be required to register and submit their pieces online or through the Machawood offices in Machakos Town.
